For me, this time of year is about reconnecting to so many people that I don’t get a chance to see over the summer.  In the spirit of that effort, here is a list of the most common questions I get when I run into someone in the “wilds” of Lincoln, NE.  So without further ado, the “What’s Up Before Round Up”:

  • “How was your summer?” – Incredible.  Life Changing.  Hectic (in a great way). Unforgettable.  These are just some of the words to describe our summer.  We are so blessed to do this work, and to share camp with all of you.
  • “So do you go on summer vacation now?” – Sort of.  We all try to take a week off, but rather than a true summer vacation it feels more like catching up on all the nights and weekends we didn’t get over the summer, and settling back into our “in town” homes.  November is the time we start getting away in earnest.
  • “So what happens at camp now that summer is over?” – It keeps rolling full steam ahead.  Highlights include:
    • Outdoor Education - We average over 350 kids at camp a week for Outdoor Education programs during September and October.
    • Retreat Groups – Family Reunions, Show Choirs, Martial Arts, Dance Troops, we do it all.
    • Senior Kitaki Kids – We have 185 applicants this year to our high school age job training program, the Senior Kitaki Kids.  Monthly leadership development events began in September and will continue throughout the year!
    • OPS Refugee and Immigrant Partnership – On a day off of school, this new partnership brought over 200 people to camp for family fun!
    • Adult Fitness Adventure – a new program for us as we continually strive to answer the question “when are you going to have camp for adults?”  We welcomed 30 participants for a day of fitness, nature, and the Tango Tower!  Stay tuned for more opportunities
    • Halloween is coming!  5 nights of Halloween Camp and the Fall Family BBQ keep the weekends busy in October.
  • “That’s a big dog.” – Not really a question, just an observation, but Caspian, my 115 lb Great Pyrenees who I adopted at the beginning of the summer, made his debut back in Lincoln.  Every stranger we meet needs to tell us how big he is.  Picture included so you, too, can say "that's a big dog".
  • “What’s new for 2019?” – We’ve got some ideas, but we aren’t ready to share yet!  We do know that summer camp for 2019 is over 70% full already, and we already can’t wait to get it started!

From all of us at camp, thanks for a great summer, and wishes to you all for a wonderful Fall!  We hope to see you at camp soon!

Sincerely,

Jason Smith
